Miami, Florida—July 5, 2005--Orchids are becoming the world’s most popular flowering potted plant rating first in flowering sales in Europe, second in the U.S. and leading the Japanese flowering market. “ForemostCo is responding to the distribution needs of global producers and delivering orchid starter plant product cost effectively to growers in the U.S. and Europe,” says Joe Roberts the company’s Founder and President. ForemostCo began trials and investigative process in July of 2004 and the Orchid Sales Division was inaugurated on June 1st, 2005 with the appointment of Tom Fennell III, ForemostCo Orchid Sales Division Manager.

ForemostCo did extensive market trials for sales of Phalaenopsis starter materials and subsequently entered into a distribution agreement with Taiwan-based Today’s Tropical Nursery to sell their diverse and popular selection of product seedlings and cloned orchids. The bulk of potted orchids sold today are Phalaenopsis ranging from 50% to 99% of the retail mix. Phalaenopsis can be flowered year round and are available in numerous colors; white is the most prevalent color, but pink varieties, raspberry, jade, gold and yellow are growing in popularity.

Initial market response to ForemostCo’s wide range of quality cloned product has met with enthusiastic response from growers in the U.S. and Europe. Through ForemostCo, Today’s Tropical Nursery is currently supplying a variety of both seedling and cloned orchids in three sizes; direct from Flask, 10-15 cm. plants and 16-20 cm. plants.

The U.S. orchid market is growing rapidly. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 15.6 million pots of orchids valued at $121 million were sold in 2003, up 18% from 2002. With ForemostCo’s new Orchid Division, the firm aims to meet the growing U.S. and European demand for starter material with a wide range of colors and three keys sizes initially.

In its 18 years of operation, ForemostCo has become the largest importer of live plants to the U.S., accounting for more than 20% of all plants brought into the country.
